Just found out last night Tonino had offered this watch some time ago and I can't find it if there's any left for sale. I hope to find one eventually!

Just stumbled on this thread. I'm not a huge watch guy, but I too bought my first Rolex a couple years ago. It's a black bezel daytona. It's the only expensive watch I own. I wear it very infrequently.

Black Daytona is very cool. This watch talk made me want to get that used Air King. I have been looking for a sport watch that stays under the radar and is easy to wear. Most of my good watches are dress watches like day date, and my sport ones like the Sporturas are pretty heavy.

It would be cool to see your Sporturas. I didn't know what these are and guess what this is one of the top result. This Seiko (2005 era) has very different styling than most, I like it.

There's a preowned one on ebay, about 16-17K CAD.

These are my storage queen Sporturas. Maintained, admired, and rarely worn. The silver one on the left is very lightweight titanium, and the black one on the right is stainless steel.

The black one is heavy, so I swapped the original bracelet for a leather strap. Even then, it is still quite heavy. At this point, it is basically wrist training. It has three orange chrono hands and an orange seconds hand, which are pretty rare these days.

CAD 16 - 17k is way overpriced, but everything is expensive now, even on the used market. I bought mine used for much less about 10 years ago before covid.

Both have a capacitor inside that stores kinetic energy. I had the capacitors replaced and the movements overhauled with fresh oils by the maker to preserve longevity. They both run very well. I also bought a special charger made specifically for Sporturas. About 30 minutes of charging can fill the capacitor enough to run for roughly five days or 120 hours. Superb Japanese tech.

Beautiful! I particularly like the black an orange, it's now on my wish list.

Many times on ebay seller will inflate prices so much in hopes of getting a fish that will bite "hook, line, and sinker".

Here's the listing. With exchange rate, duties and taxes the end price is phenomenal.

My God that is way overpriced. And in Euros too. I believe the reasonable price for this is around 5k CAD. Given its age, it is almost impossible to find one in mint condition without scratches. Many units have failing capacitors and are simply worn out, both inside and out. A truly mint one is rare, and that rarity allows sellers to ask much higher prices, often whatever the market will bear.

I bought mine for around 2.5k CAD for the titanium version and 4k CAD for the black one.

Since it is on your wish list, if you are unable to find a better example, I could part with mine at a fair price. No rush or pressure at all. They have just been sitting in my storage. The only condition is that they would need to be sold together as a set. They have been together for so long it feels wrong to split them up :)

If it ever comes to it, we can always use an escrow service, which is quite standard for watch transactions.

Ha they are "brothers". :) I'm not in a hurry for these yet. The one I really want to find is the Tonino a few post ago but I doubt I'll find one, looks like they were released in 2011 or so?

I've always had watches that had batteries which is convenient and very reliable. I'm not sure if these require much maintenance or fail eventually because of the mechanism.

Here's the latest on my Lotus watch collection. Take note they are cheap watches but what counts for me is I like how they look. The separate one in its box was tough to find and order, it traveled a bit in the seller's country then the shipper returned it due to a postal strike in our country. The seller ignored me after that. He relisted it 2 months later and I purchased it again.

I made a quick search for local market for Tonino GT1 T9GB and couldn't locate one either. Usually this kind of watches are very hard to locate once they are sold out.

Quartz watches are very convenient, usually more resistant to shocks, and pretty accurate. They need very little maintenance compared to mechanical watches. The main risk happens when the case is opened for a battery change. If the gaskets are not properly replaced and the case is not pressure tested to restore water resistance, any moisture from rain or water exposure can enter the case and damage the movement.

WOW! Complete sets of six Lotus watches. You really like the orange dials and complications designs. Do they all have stainless casings? or maybe ceramics?

Strangely enough I've seen a few brand new ones on ebay, same model except different colors. I might get lucky, I put saved searches of several key words.

They are all stainless except one is plastic (the one on the far left). I guess I like complicated designs like you say. :)

Came across this pic and thought of our orange loving friend.

Very nice selection, My favorite of the bunch is Hublot big bang unico. Good thing I checked on ebay to see real pictures, it's almost red, probably @Rampante21 would like the color, (Arancio Xanto).

I find it strange that a 30-140K watch has the same silicone bands as a $200 watch! If the had black or orange metal linked band that would be even better.

As for the Richard Mille, unfortunately it has been copied and the market flooded with cheap $30 imitations.

This one too is really nice. 1 of 99. It perfectly suits the color borealis.

I'm curious what is your comfort level in watch prices or the max you would spend? 5K, 10K, 20K, 30K, 100K etc?

I think my max would be 5K.

I bought my gold Day-Date years ago for around $25k. Its value has clearly grown and similar pieces now trade in the $30k to $50k range on the used market. Because of that I am comfortable spending more on this brand from an investment standpoint.

I also own a JLC Reverso and a Master that I bought for about $10k each, along with a few sports watches. Most of those are down roughly 50% in market value. That said, I do not flip watches, so in reality the paper value does not really matter. It's just something fun to think about.
