I'm looking to replace the differential bolts/axle shaft on the right hand side. I read they are aluminum and stretch and eventually it leaks like mine do. I called Audi, they do not sell individual bolts, they want to sell the entire transmission.

I found a Dodson titanium bolt kit, and a distributor in Canada but Dodson will not ship because DHL which is the delivery company is on strike.

The second option is from the US with an AMS bolt kit(also Dodson manufactured), I may attempt to see if an authorized dealer ships here.

Apart from that I'm thinking if I can use regular automotive steel type bolts and get them locally.

These are External Torx head, M10x1.25x30mm

This might not exactly answer your question BUT I'll throw this out there in case you haven't considered it. First the obvious, the axle bolts are N10667901.

Now, regarding the diff covers, the transmission is made by Dana for VAG. Dana also makes transmission and driveline components for BMW and those bolts look an awful lot like BMW bolts to me. BMW part number 07129903798 does fit the bill although the washer head doesn't exactly match.

These bolts are very German so you could probably find an equivalent by looking else where in the VAG catalog, BMW, or Mercedes.

Lastly, the diff bolts look standard to me and what I mean is not aluminum stretch like the bolts that hold the transaxle to the engine. Those are definitely stretch 1 and a half time use, basically after the second application they're done.

I'm not an expert but maybe that helps, or at the very least confuse you more. :-D

Thank you!

After contacting many suppliers for the kit above most didn't bother to answer and the most prominent one in the US wanted me to wire money plus charged fee to send some money! What the heck they don't take credit cards? Anyway I was able to order last week from a US vendor and it's going to be cheaper than buying from here. It's going to cost me roughly $1100 or more with all fees.

Oh, I didn't realize the post was a month old, I just signed up.

I have noticed most international purchases require wiring money. I'm in the US and I bought the oil pump rebuild kit from REPerformance in the UK and I had to wire the money too. I think it's just cleaner with the foreign transaction fees, exchange rates, etc.

Anyhow, glad you figured it out.

Oh, also, this is a given but just in case make sure you replace all of the seals. I would wager your leak is more the rubber becoming plastic than an issue with the hardware itself.

You're right the seal for the axle cover must be worn out. That's going to be very difficult to find, I doubt there's aftermarket seals for this and I know inside the gearbox not every seal is available. and it's a big job to remove part of the suspension, the axle, draining the gearbox and refilling it again. I never had a car that didn't need repairs. :( I may try to change the bolts one by one however it's surely a waste of time.

I'm certain companies that rebuild these transaxles have a source for the seals. Even if they're sourcing aviation o-rings or something similar because they can't be rebuilding these with new high performance parts, charging customers tens of thousands of dollars with old seals. Maybe it's a closely guarded secret but perhaps if you buddy up to some of them they'll sell you a "kit"? REPerformance in the UK is run by a really nice and helpful guy and they have a YouTube channel where they post some pretty comprehensive repair videos. Try reaching out to them and see if they can help you out.

I watch all REperfomance videos when they are about Lambo's and R8s. I remember him saying a few times when dismantling gearboxes some gaskets in the there are not made so he has to reuse them.

Anyway here's a video for my reference when I need to take the side out, it's just a large bloody O-ring! I hope to find one if not I'll see if I have a matching thickness in my kit and cut it to length then glue the ends and seal the mating surfaces with RTV silicone.

Is the gearbox supposed to be leaking before it's shelf life? Found it very odd for this kind of model, especially built for high performance and with double clutch. Unless it is heavily track, I find it ridiculous for owner having to fiddle with the gearbox. Regardless of having warranty or not, the manufacturer should do something about it IMO.

Everyone says these cars are bulletproof but they are not with all the videos I've seen including my own experience. Usually those who say they don't break down more than likely have very low miles.

I'm trying to order the O-ring from Audi and I got this super grumpy woman in the parts department over the phone. I asked for an R8 O-ring and she flipped out. I even asked her why she was giving me a hard time even though the parts are the same! She wanted a VIN so I told her I'll find you an R8 VIN.

Some people are so miserable.

Scuderia needed VIN too when I ordered for a wheel bulb. Something with Audi forcing supplier for the VIN maybe to conform to whatever law they have in Germany. If they don’t accept your Lambo VIN, they have a problem since parts are now from Audi.

I tried to give her my H VIN, she lit up like a gasoline torch! Anyway I found a random R8 that sold with it's listed VIN, then I sent her an email with pictures.
