I decided to paint the key fob case, however the base coat was a bad mix from the paint shop. It's a little too dark and brown. I'll keep this one as a spare and just ordered another case and I'll try again. To improve this I will make a slot to see the red signal light and maybe highlight the button grooves.

I ordered some key case and with experiment with them too.

While I wait for new key fobs, and key case I decided to strip the paint and try again. My spare spray can produced a slightly better result but it still turned a little brown. I went to the store to have a new batch made. They had fired the guy who had made my last batch. I lost over $150 in a bad mix.

I think this time it'll turn out as it's supposed to. The guy came out of the booth to show me the paint mix. The guy was amazed at the complex borealis color because most paints is one color alone but this needs a specific colored primer, then the orange base, then the pearls once the base has dried.
2 spray cans of base and 2 spray cans of pearl for a total of $260. The guy checked if it was cheaper to have a 1/4 pint made (+-1/2 a cup, it was near $500! Spray cans it is!
I'll paint a new case and fobs when I get them and I should have enough to paint the engine cross brace in the spring.

The one with over embossed letters (most likely due to bad molding) and bad silver paint. It's so bad it looks glittery!

Are you sure your original fob is original? It doesn't look original at all. I have my fob right in my face to compare and they don't look like yours. It looks close to the right one than the left.

It would be very difficult to have a key cut with the bull inside the epoxy. I doubt Lambo would program a key from China.

Stage 2 of 4 complete. You can see the guy made a proper batch of paint. Orange vs the last batch of brown base! I think I'll go see them what they can do with the bad batch of paint. That's was over $150 wasted and so many hours of fooling around.

First step I sanded both cases, then I sprayed 2 coats of clear plastic primer then 2 coats of white primer. I put 3 base coats.

This one I normally use. It's always inside a leather case. The other one I've never really touched since new. Only changed the batteries.

I went back to the paint shop, the manager is a cool guy but at first he was going to give me a "deal next time." I asked what kind of deal but he didn't know. Then he offered 75% back, I said no I wasted 4 spray cans so you refund me for all of them. Which he did, that was $250.

I stripped the key case for the 5th time. Then I completed both spare key fobs.

Wow the fob looks very cool! The painted fob is for display only or is it usable? Did you paint both including the original?

I painted 2x spares that I ordered and left the originals alone, and yes they are usable, just swap out the electronic plate from the original to the spare. I didn't have time to play with it though. Only problem with painted fobs I fear the paint will scratch easily so I would need to have it in a sunglass silk pouch or something when I have it in my pocket.

I'm seriously contemplating in ordering another set with the electronics. The issue is what kind of equipment do you need in order to program the signal from the original to the spare. I have a friend who is a wiz in telecom, he might have an idea.

I received another key case late last night so I will spend the day painting the cases. It will give me options to choose from.

Pretty cool! That's some expensive paint. The OEM key is such a disappointment on the Huracan. It's not anymore special than a standard Audi key of the same era. For a marquee brand and a vehicle that costs nearly twice what an R8 does, you'd think they would've provided a nicer key.

It's always have to do with maximum profit margins and save wherever they can. They don't aim perfection when they can settle for good enough. Evidently R8 and Huracan are mostly the same which equals max profit.

Great for me as I get some parts from the Audi dealer, I got axle bolts and oil filters from VW.

As for the key now that I see how simple the shell is, it would be easy for a company to make custom plastic shells. I wonder if I could put the electronic into a diecast.

Yes, I have taken advantage of the same. On my old LP610-4, I actually took it to Audi once for just an oil change as the R8 master tech was able to complete the oil service as you mentioned they have the required VW oil/filter/plugs/crush washers etc. for a small fraction of what the Lambo dealer charges. I believe the air filters and many other components are shared with the R8 as well. From what I recall, the only hiccup is that Audi doesn't have the Lamborghini software to reset the maintenance reminder.

Everything you can see or touch from the exterior is Lambo everything else is the same as R8.
I buy the majority of stuff online, way way cheaper. Spark plugs $220 approx from the local auto parts vs $600 at Lambo
My oil pump gaskets are going to run me $760 vs $2300 from Audi

Oil reset is easy, it's an $80 scan tool.

I will be filling out the key fob lettering (Lamborghini) in black. I painted the groove of the pleather in orange.

Would it be silly if I put a key fob in a diecast model? I'm tempted to do it. I wouldn't touch the original fob at all, just trim the diecast to fit the wheels and reinstall the bottom plates.
