I have some stock that I am very disappointed on and will let go soonish. But what would be a good alternative now? Gold?

Value of Bitcoin has gone up, to the roof. I think in January, when Trump is in office, the value will go up even more.

Gold is always a good buy, at any situation. Value goes up like 1.5 in the last 5 years or so. With its stability & high liquidity, I think this is the best.

Once I advised people in reddit to buy gold like a few years ago. Got downvoted by everyone. Very strange that place.

About stocks, it is best not to sell when it is not performing well if there is a chance of recovery. Some companies can turn out like the next Apple especially a visionary has a chance to join the company.

Oh if you have stocks of Japanese companies, I can check them out for you using my local channels.

I think you are probably right on both Bitcoin, Doge and on Gold. Gold has gone down a bit lately, probably people moving funds into buying crypto instead right now.
I'm trying to find some ETFs or similar to invest in Gold - I do believe it will be good in the long run too, and as a compliment to Crypto.
The stock I'm irritated on is a pretty large VC in the Nordics that have been underperforming for quite some years - looks like, and hopefully getting up to a level at getting my investment back on plus - and then, I'll move into something else - perhaps gold...

Interesting with Japanese companies - I'm not at all into that - but still of course there should be a lot of interesting stocks. Any thoughts on that?

Yes, Gold likes to make a correction before climbing further, and that's usually the good time to buy. I did what topcarbon (from other forum) said, by keep buying regardless of how it performs. He was right.

There is a Japanese chip company called Kioxia (used to be part of Toshiba before independence in 2018) that is going for IPO next month. I think this may be worthwhile to watch. That good chips will be used by other Japanese manufacturers and more.

Also, Toyota stocks should be good too since they are pretty much dominate the world market & still have plenty left in their R&D. You gotta check out the local dealerships, their mechanics are top grade.

Franky speaking I hate Nissan but that company most likely will not fail since the gov has stocks in it like Mitsubishi. Should be a good buy after the stock hits rock bottom like in a couple of weeks.

Why would Nissan and Mitsubishi hit rock bottom in a couple of weeks? What's the reasoning behind that?

And trying to look up more about Kioxia https://www.kioxia-holdings.com/en-jp/about/company.html where can I find more about their IPO? I can not see it on their site, or am I looking the wrong places?

Mitsubishi Motors’ stock hit rock bottom twice, in 2000 and 2016, following scandals involving falsified fuel economy data and the coverup of customer complaints like problems with falling tires, faulty brakes, and clutches. But the company remains strong because it is backed by some of Japan’s richest investors, along with direct support from the Japanese government, allowing its stock to rebound somewhat after a 40% drop.

Nissan is currently laying off 9000 employees (3% of workforce) and has lost 90% of its liquid cash reserves, now down to only around $300 million. This amount is barely enough to sustain a car company IMO. Their low sales are caused by undiversified lineup that prioritized EVs only without hybrids. Combined with economic slowdowns in China and the US, Nissan’s stock will hit rock bottom.

They should appear on the Japan Exchange Group website (https://www.jpx.co.jp/english/) under the company code 285A. The IPO period is from December 2024 to June 2025, meaning they could list on the stock exchange at any point within this timeframe. Currently, they said they are working on valuation for the IPO.

I predict their NAND flash memory will be heavily used for both civil and military drones. Future conflicts will increasingly rely on drones.

Japanese (but you can use google translator):

Funny, you mentioned Reddit. Definitely a strange bunch of people on there but some good info if you could sift through the BS. I have always done well with real estate. You're spot on about gold I wish I would've gotten into that years ago. My father has done quite well with that.

I have always been a fan of Nissan. One of my 1st vehicle purchases was a 1995 Pathfinder I loved that thing ( I was19). I actually bought my 16 year-old daughter her first vehicle yesterday a 2015 Nissan Murano.

Could you share your experiences or any work you’ve done with real estate? Here, real estate is generally only profitable in major cities or in areas just outside them where there’s potential for expansion. Rural areas are mostly deserted, with low land values.

I’m fairly certain that Reddit is managed by a strongly left-leaning group, including the admins of many sub-forums. It’s tough to express an opinion that differs from the consensus without getting heavily downvoted. I agree that there are good comments, but most of them end up hidden due to downvotes. But no worries, nobody will downvote your opinions here. All opinions counted!

Yes, Nissan made good cars when Carlos Goshn was still in charge as CEO. That Pathfinder and Murano are good cars.

Then Nissan kicked him out in 2018 because of connection with Renault and French gov. Replaced him with a Japanese CEO that knows nothing. This year, they introduced Ariya which is an electric crossover to compete with Murano. Nobody buys electric and here they are now with laying off and losing their cash.

Great point on real estate. In fact, I was going to mention the fact that I'm in St. Louis, Missouri might be a contributor to my success in real estate. Prices are just more reasonable here. Especially 20 years ago when I first got into it. I just got lucky.

I agree regarding Reddit. That's why I am banned on there like on the other forum. 😂

I read that property values are going up now like 2-3%. I think it may go up more next year.

When I was in college, I went for a long drive from Texas to Ohio and passed St. Louis on the way. It was a very nice city. A pleasant change after going through ghost town in Oklahoma 🤣

I take the approach that if washed up actors are advertising something then I should probably stay away...gold is in that category. As for liquidity, eBay isn't the easiest and if you go to a dealer the bid/ask spread is much higher than with stocks and bonds. I have gold but it's only because it's pretty. My 2 cents...not 1/10 troy ounce!

Yes 200sx was a cool car back then. An old friend was showing off his to me once, back in the 90s. Swerved in and out of traffic while I was in the passenger seat. Just like fast and furious. I was glad I didn't end up in jail!

You have a point about bid / ask spread. Even for the registered gold bar, the buy rate is always lower than sell rate for the merchant. What's up with that? It's the same thing after all.

Talking about washed up actors, here they use them for beers, lotteries, and pachinko (gambling). Never seen ads for gold, maybe because people have been buying them. The Yen is depreciating like crazy.
