I've been a watch fan for years. Too poor to buy anything cool, and my wife had a 'No Rolex' rule for years......for an unknown reason.
I have a few various watches, the coolest until today was a Movado my wife got me.
I brought up a rolex the other day again, and for some reason she relented!! So, after some research I purchased a Rolex Sea Dweller. As an obese man, the 44mm bezel fits my fat arm well. It is stunning. Even though it is over twice as expensive as any other watch I own, I think I'm going to daily this. The previous owner replaced the bracelet with a very tasteful black rubber band that utilizes the Rolex clasp....I recieved the original band, along with boxes/card/etc.

For the past few months I've been deep into the Rolex research. Not sure if/when I'll buy another, but the Daytonas are really really amazing.

Who else has some neat watches?

I too need 44mm bezels because anything smaller looks like a kid's size watch on my wrist. Strangely enough I didn't mind paying that much for my car but it would be tough for me to spend a huge sum on a watch unless it's "be-all and end-all,".

Very few designs I like and big enough for my wrist were Bulova precisionist. I bought them all on ebay waiting for deals paying half of what goes for retail. I like them so much I have a 3 spares in case one breaks.

My favorite is the red one, the bezel is carbon fiber.

I have a spare red watch, I would love if a jeweler could paint the accents in orange.

Congrats!! That is a very nice watch and a good purchase. I bought my first Rolex which is daydate and it has been with me for years. Buffet has one that he keeps wearing daily for all occasions.

Right now I'm sporting the JLC Master Ultra thin while riding Shinkansen.

Been wearing my new Sea Dweller a few days. I really like it. Definitely heavier than other watches. No one has noticed it, which is even better. But....I'm a bit concerned about care. How do you guys handle your watches when not on your wrist? I know it will get normal wear when wearing it. No way to avoid, but that is OK and expected. However, with my old watch, I'd come home from work and toss it in a drawer with my keys and wallet. I wasn't particularly careful. Do you guys do anything different with your dailys to avoid this sort of additional wear? Maybe I'm over thinking it.

I used to keep my watches in winder units but now I use a regular wooden display box. I feel that using winder just cause more wear and tear than convenience. I can set time in 5 secs. Before putting my watch back after wearing, I wipe them with my dry handkerchief. And full wipe using microfiber cloth once a year. As far as tossing them in drawer with keys and wallet, I would never do that. Not even with my g-shock! Or my ocd would kick in making me nuts :)

I only wear my watches when going out, I never wear a watch for work. They look mint. I always store them in the boxes as shown prior.

As for people noticing the only time I had a comment were at the festival because I wore the orange watch with the Lambo. A few weeks ago at cars & coffee a guy saw me with an orange hat and deduced I owned the orange car however the watch I wore didn't match, he wanted to know what brand it was. When I told him it was a Bulova he was happy to say also owned a Bulova, a Marine Star. He probably thought it cost a fortune, no not at all.

I don't think guys really look at other guys watches. I'm not sure women even look at men's watches.

Nice that you got to chat with a watch guy. The Marine is a solid watch with a reliable Japanese movement. It is not a luxury piece, but it keeps accurate time and looks good without making you worry about theft.

I agree that most guys do not really notice what other guys are wearing. I have noticed some women can be a bit rude when they see me wearing my Rolex. I do not wear it to impress anyone. It is for myself and to mark meaningful moments. For this reason, I like to wear my dd during cold season as I can tuck it under my sleeve away from these losers. There are always some insecure and jealous types out there, so stay sharp.

Check out this Oyster perpetual in blood orange. It's 36mm, so maybe a bit too small for your wrist.

Sorry. Totally forgot. Been busy rounding of the vacation with arranging a yearly powerboat event… there will be more tomorrows

I anticipate maybe submarine or yacht version of watches?

Talking about powerboat event, you meant something like race boat? We have a big boat race track at the nearby city and the place is busy at the moment hosting races for the summer.

Looks like Trump is putting 39% tariffs on Swiss made products. Does this mean Swiss watches would get more expensive in the States? @REKIII you bought your Sea Dweller at the best timing. A good purchase I must say.

Yes too small and too red. The closest color to arancio borealis is tangerine.

I've been eyeing this Bulova, same shape as the other ones I have. The bracelet is smoky gray the bezel smoky blue and some orange hands. I'm tempted but I may not like it in person. About $1000+, any opinion on this one?

I think that is the precisionist line. Looks good. Probably the best quartz at its price level and size. Very aggressive design. Steel casing, so you can abuse it. It uses a super high frequency quartz movement, over 200k Hz, so the second hand sweeps smoothly instead of ticking. It is accurate to within about 10 seconds per year.

Other comparable make and models at the same case size of around 44mm with similar precision....are not many.

I'd say, maybe Longines VHP that has similar precision, ticks instead of smooth sweeps on second hand, and look a bit plain or understated. Price is about double. Or Citizen Chronomaster with better precision (5 secs discrepancy per year), but maybe too small for your wrist (only 40 mm).

I definitely didnt buy the sea dweller to make money, but it seems a used Rolex has the best chance to not lose money.

I found one a little cheaper and bought it. Maybe maybe not this time, but 3 times prior I purchased them used and they were actually brand new.

Good buy and I'm sure it will serve you well. A big case is cool too. I realized I'm starting to squint my eyes just to look at my 37mm dial šŸ˜‚

Back during covid, almost all Rolexes were like 3x their retail price, new or used. Then the price fell and is raising again now due to tariffs. It's way better investment than expensive vacations, and also very liquid after gold.

Did you start needing reading glasses like I do?

It's a strange realization I see all these young people just starting their adult lives while they started to call me sir. I can see in their eyes when they see the car and we exchange a few words, I see their faces, the aspiration and admiration of achievement while I admire their youth & having a good woman by their side. Then I think I wish the lightbulb inside of me would of turned on way earlier because of being kicked down as an employee.
